“Lost for Words”

During the pandemic, I found it important to keep producing creative work as a form of therapy, so I continued to take photographs of the human made environment, although it had changed considerably as a result of lockdowns, quarantines, and a flailing economy. I noticed that many billboards that normally feature large colourful commercial advertisements in Thailand were left empty and I started to document them as a series. On one hand, these gigantic structures have become useless and wasteful. Yet the lack of words (and images) seem to reflect what we have been missing and the uncertainty of life as we now know it in what has been dubbed the “new normal”. The empty signage can even express the loss of lives that are a result of this tragic phenomenon.
